Utah State Partners with Aruba to Deliver a Secure Gigabit Wi-Fi Expressway

Utah State University, a 28,000‑student land‑grant research institution with a 400‑acre main campus and facilities spanning 7,000 acres, needed to transform its aging wireless network into a secure, centrally managed “12‑lane” Wi‑Fi expressway. The university faced rapidly exploding device growth (sometimes 40% month‑to‑month), high‑density classrooms and dorms, and the requirement that wireless perform with wired‑quality reliability for students, faculty, researchers and guests.

USU selected Aruba and local integrator Red Sky to deploy 2,600 Aruba 802.11ac indoor/outdoor access points plus ClearPass, AirWave, ClientMatch, AppRF and AirGroup. The rollout delivered Gigabit, wire‑quality Wi‑Fi across campus and system sites, simplified eduroam and AppleTV management, improved troubleshooting and capacity planning, and now reliably supports tens of thousands of devices with markedly better user satisfaction.
