University of Minnesota Duluth Uses AirWave to Control its Cisco Wi-Fi Network

The University of Minnesota Duluth, a 244‑acre campus with more than 50 buildings and a community of 10,000+, had rapidly grown its Wi‑Fi deployment to over 180 access points. A three‑person networking team needed centralized management, deep visibility into users and devices, and a path to migrate across evolving Cisco Aironet and Airespace product lines without disrupting service.

The university selected Aruba’s AirWave Wireless Management Suite (with RAPIDS rogue detection) to manage both Aironet and Airespace gear, integrate with existing authentication tools, and provide per‑user visibility and time‑series reporting. AirWave helped the team identify overloaded APs (enabling timely capacity additions), manage legacy devices during migration, and deliver a scalable, efficiently managed campus wireless network that supports planned expansion.
