University of Iowa Uses AirWave 7™ to Manage an Expanding Wireless Network without Adding Staff

The University of Iowa, a major research university on a 1,900‑acre campus serving over 30,000 students, was rapidly expanding its wireless footprint to cover nearly all indoor spaces and add roughly 1,000–2,200 access points. IT needed real‑time and historical metrics, better capacity planning, and automated rogue AP detection to meet HIPAA and operational demands — all while avoiding additional staff hires.

Iowa deployed AirWave Management Platform, VisualRF, and RAPIDS to gain centralized visibility, RF mapping, and automated rogue detection. The solution was straightforward to implement, replaced many home‑grown tools, sped troubleshooting, improved capacity planning (including the 802.11n migration), strengthened compliance, and allowed the team to manage the network’s near‑doubling in size without increasing headcount.
