A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study
Maasstad Hospital, one of the largest and most modern hospitals in the Netherlands, set out to support a shift toward preventative, personalised care while coping with an ageing population and constrained resources. The IT team needed a highly available, secure and open network that could integrate specialist medical systems, manage 16,000+ device connections and 5,000 users, enable mobility and IoT/IIoT, deliver role‑based access and asset tracking, and do all of this without planned downtime.
The hospital deployed a unified Aruba architecture — including CX core and access switches, Wi‑Fi 6 APs with BLE, Remote Access Points, Mobility Controllers/Conductor, ClearPass, AirWave, Aruba Location Services and Aruba UXI — with Blyott RTLS for asset tracking. The result is a single, manageable wired/wireless platform that automates segmentation and security, enables secure remote working and VoWi‑Fi, supports rapid scaling of connected devices and use cases, provides live upgrades with no service interruptions, and has improved operational efficiency (including up to 30% remote consultations and faster asset recovery).
