Unesco world heritage site deploys an aruba WLAN at its innovative new medical complex

The city of Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, built a new 496‑bed Centre Hospitalier and an associated 200‑bed retirement residence and needed pervasive, secure Wi‑Fi to serve physicians, staff, suppliers, patients and international visitors while protecting patient data and minimizing IT administration across a 570,000 sq. ft., multi‑story campus.

Carcassonne deployed an Aruba WLAN (Instant APs and controller‑managed OmniAccess at the hospital) with Aruba ClearPass for unified wired/wireless policy and Active Directory‑based authentication, integrated with Alcatel‑Lucent networking. The solution delivered fast internal deployment, strong access security and guest segregation, enabled EMR access, biomedical devices and automated guided vehicles, reduced administrative overhead, and provided scalable coverage for future medical innovations.
