Seattle Police Department deploys Aruba networks to provide video surveillance for annual Mardi Gras festival

The Seattle Police Department needed a fast, non‑intrusive way to provide real‑time, broadcast‑quality video surveillance for the downtown Mardi Gras festival in historic Pioneer Square. Because trenching for a wired network was too costly and disruptive, the department sought a scalable, quickly deployable wireless solution that would let officers monitor crowds and respond proactively to incidents.

Aruba delivered a wireless mesh system using MSR2000/MSR4000 routers and nine PTZ cameras across the event area, backhauling video to headquarters and a mobile command center and enabling handheld officer control. The network was deployed in days, provided HD, jitter‑free video over multiple hops, avoided wired infrastructure costs, and proved flexible and re-deployable for future events—improving situational awareness and response capability.
