San Diego Police Department Turns to Aruba for Video Surveillance

The San Diego Police Department needed to boost security along high‑traffic areas of the San Diego Trolley route after a rise in crime, but had limited physical access and required a flexible, scalable, and cost‑effective video surveillance solution. Integrator ProShop Group was engaged to find a wireless option that could be deployed quickly and expanded easily without major infrastructure work.

ProShop deployed Aruba wireless mesh routers with rugged Dotworkz enclosures housing PTZ cameras, allowing officers to control live feeds from patrol cars over a secure 2.4‑GHz link while video is backhauled to headquarters over the mesh (leveraging public‑safety 4.9‑GHz) at up to 30 fps. The system was configured in hours, provided stronger network isolation, and reduced installation costs by more than 90% versus traditional wired deployments, improving situational awareness and response coordination.
