Ryerson University - Customer Case Study

Ryerson University, a large downtown Toronto institution and home to the startup-focused Digital Media Zone, faced growing demand for fast, secure Wi‑Fi from students, faculty and community partners. Dense urban interference, high device density (#GenMobile) and mixed campus–commercial spaces made reliable coverage and role-based access control essential for teaching, research and business activities.

Ryerson upgraded to Aruba’s 802.11ac AP-225 access points (230 in the new business school, part of a 1,500+ AP campus deployment), plus Aruba ClientMatch, AirWave management and mobility controllers with role-based policies and RAPs for secure remote access. The result: gigabit-class wireless with improved speeds (802.11n devices reaching up to 600 Mbps), better device roaming and network visibility, support for streaming and VoIP, enhanced security and simpler administration — eliminating frequent user complaints about Wi‑Fi performance.
