Case Study: Steel Authority of India Ltd achieves hybrid‑cloud modernization and 10x faster backups and reconciliations with HPE Aruba Networking

A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study

Preview of the Steel Authority of India Ltd Case Study

Modernizing steelmaking with data‑driven hybrid cloud

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), India’s largest steelmaker, needed to modernize aging HP‑UX ERP and IT systems at its Bokaro plant to support plans to more than double crude steel production and migrate to a single SAP S/4HANA platform. Legacy infrastructure caused slow backups, three‑to‑four‑day month/quarter reconciliations, limited scalability for data‑driven applications, and risk from end‑of‑life platforms — all while operations had to remain 24x7.

SAIL implemented an on‑premises HPE GreenLake hybrid cloud using HPE Superdome Flex, Primera storage, StoreOnce, VMware on Red Hat, Aruba 10Gbps networking, Veeam backups and HPE Pointnext services, migrating seamlessly over a holiday weekend. The new environment cut backups by 10x (to ~30 minutes), reduced reconciliation times to roughly one‑tenth, enables resource provisioning in about 30 minutes, improves performance and energy efficiency, and provides a scalable foundation for production optimization and a companywide SAP S/4HANA consolidation.
