A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study
Lufthansa Technik set out to transform slow, costly in‑flight Wi‑Fi into a platform for rich onboard services — from streaming and moving maps to online duty‑free — despite limited or expensive external connectivity, long aviation product lifecycles, and the challenges of providing high bandwidth inside a metal fuselage with as few access points as possible.
By adopting Aruba’s 802.11ac access points (AP‑135 and AP‑225) with controller‑less operation, integrated antennas and adaptive radio management, Lufthansa Technik developed a ruggedized, aviation‑qualified Wi‑Fi solution that delivers single‑link speeds of ~500 Mbit/s and multi‑station throughput exceeding 1 Gbit/s. The result is a new generation of in‑cabin services (streaming, retail, personalized content), reduced weight and hardware costs versus built‑in screens, and a future‑proof system designed for long service life and simplified installation.
