KPMG Netherlands Counts on Aruba for Network Rightsizing

KPMG Netherlands faced steep networking costs as it planned a new 2,800-person, 65,000 m2 headquarters near Amsterdam: a traditional wired design would have required roughly 18,000 cable pulls, more than 55 chassis and 260 switches, and an estimated upfront bill north of $6 million. The firm needed pervasive, secure, centrally managed WLAN and voice support while avoiding redundant infrastructure and excessive recurring costs.

KPMG implemented a blended access-layer “network edge rightsizing” approach with Aruba — deploying two Aruba 6000 chassis, Aruba 3600 Wi‑Fi switches, Aruba AP125 access points (500+), and Aruba management and security tools — to shift a large share of users to 802.11n wireless. The change halved ports/cabling and closet space, delivered a fully redundant, centrally managed WLAN, and cut capital build-out costs by more than $2 million while reducing recurring network costs by an estimated $760,000 per year, with added benefits in performance, manageability and lower energy/carbon use.
