König-Pilsener-ARENA establishes digital platform to create ‘smart venue’ of the future

König-Pilsener‑ARENA, a 12,555‑seat multipurpose venue in Oberhausen within the ASM Global group, confronted a fragmented, hard‑to‑manage network while demand for constant, high‑bandwidth connectivity from visitors, promoters and operations was rising. The arena needed to support simultaneous connectivity for thousands of guests, simplify management to a single platform, and create digital touchpoints and data for commercial partners.

Working with Aruba, the arena deployed a unified infrastructure—150 Aruba 802.11ac Wave 2 indoor/outdoor APs, controllers, switches, ArubaOS, ClearPass and AirWave—for centralized management and scalability. The result is free, high‑capacity Wi‑Fi with massive uptake (avg ~30,000 logins per event, peak ~100,000), per‑visitor bandwidth scaled up to 12 Mbps in some scenarios, real‑time PoS and sales monitoring, flexible pop‑up retail, and rich data for targeted promotions—establishing a digital platform for future services and innovation.
