Case Study: Kobe University achieves campus-wide high-performance Wi‑Fi and support for 40,000 devices with HPE Aruba Networking

A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study

Preview of the Kobe University Case Study

Kobe University creates amazing mobile experiences for students and staff with a smart, scalable network

Kobe University, a leading national research university in western Japan with over 16,000 students across four campuses, needed a flexible, high-performance network to support growing device density and bandwidth demands in classrooms, shared spaces and student residences. IT also required centralized access security across wired and wireless infrastructure, APIs for third‑party integration, and better wired switching capabilities to improve user experience and manage rising on‑campus traffic.

The university deployed an Aruba solution—8400 core switching, ClearPass for unified authentication and policy enforcement, and AirWave for network management—creating a scalable wired and wireless platform. The new architecture supports about 40,000 devices, enables expansion of research projects, reduces IT time and costs for moves/adds/changes, and gives IT actionable application-usage data to plan for future projects.
