Case Study: Indiana University achieves scalable, high-performance campus Wi‑Fi and reduced help‑desk calls with HPE Aruba Networking

A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study

Preview of the Indiana University Case Study

Indiana University (IU) delivers quality experiences on 250,000 devices and advances student success with Aruba

Indiana University, a large multi‑campus institution serving about 109,000 students, faced rapidly evolving mobility demands: thousands of personal and IoT devices, faculty adoption of in‑class engagement apps (like Top Hat) and the need to support Skype/Zoom voice and conferencing over Wi‑Fi — all while keeping IT overhead and help‑desk complaints under control.

IU partnered with PIER Group and Aruba (HPE) to deploy Aruba WLAN, 5400R switches, ClearPass and management tools like AirWave/NetInsight. The result was a scalable, high‑performance network across classrooms and residences, a 50% drop in Wi‑Fi help‑desk calls in the first month, a 35% reduction in authentication issues, easier automated provisioning for 1,500 switches, and improved voice, conferencing and streaming experiences that support heavy BYOD and IoT use.
