A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study
GasthuisZusters Antwerpen (GZA) is a major Belgian healthcare group with three hospitals (1,100 beds), four elderly care centers and over 3,000 staff. Facing a need to increase mobility, reduce paper-based records, bring patient monitoring to the bedside, and protect sensitive data, GZA sought a secure, scalable wireless LAN that would integrate with medical devices and support heavy clinical use without compromising QoS or security.
GZA deployed Aruba (one 6000 and one 2400 controller) with about 150 access points, Aruba Policy Enforcement Firewall and Wireless Intrusion Protection, roughly 100 laptops for clinicians and Dräger Infinity patient monitors. The rollout enabled real‑time bedside EMR updates for ~1,500 nurses and 250 physicians, portable patient monitoring that reduced patient moves and labor, secure guest Internet access, and prioritized QoS for critical devices—delivering improved efficiency, better care and a scalable platform for future services like PACS and location tracking.
