Enabling campus-wide digital learning

Tomlinscote School, an Apple Distinguished secondary in the UK with 1,500 students and 200 staff using iPads, needed to future‑proof its campus network. The existing 1Gb backbone and single‑core design was being stretched by 1:1 devices, expanding outdoor learning and growing cloud workloads, so the IT team sought greater capacity, resiliency and reduced operational overhead.

Elmdale IT and Aruba implemented an Aruba Edge Services Platform: two Aruba 6405 cores with 40Gb interconnects, 45 Aruba 2930M access switches in 13 stacks with 10Gb uplinks, and a 4‑node HPE ProLiant cluster using Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct. Completed in a three‑week summer upgrade, the solution delivered a fully redundant, automated network enabling hourly backups, simpler management, multi‑gig performance for future Wi‑Fi 6, extended outdoor coverage and minimal day‑to‑day intervention.
