Derby Classrooms Get Flipped with Aruba WLAN

Derby Public Schools, a 6,700‑student district spread across 14 buildings, was moving to a 1:1, flipped‑classroom model but found its existing Wi‑Fi couldn’t handle the density or remote management needs required to support the Four C’s of 21st‑century learning. With a small IT staff responsible for a large geographic area, the district needed a more robust, scalable and easily managed wireless platform.

The district deployed an Aruba Mobility‑Defined Networks WLAN—including AP‑105 and AP‑135 access points, 6000‑series controllers, AirWave, ClearPass, and Layer‑7 tools like DPI and Visual AppRF—which delivered secure, high‑density Wi‑Fi, centralized policy and visibility, and simplified troubleshooting. The upgrade was cost‑effective, reduced reliance on wired ports, supported new services (Apple TV/AirGroup and 802.11ac), and gave teachers faster, more reliable connectivity that enhanced collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking.
