Athlone Institute of Technology, a leading Irish tech institute noted for its research and teaching, needed a modern, reliable network to support increasing digitisation, mobile and blended learning, cloud and VDI workloads, seamless campus-wide wireless access, and an IPv6-only architecture — all to enhance student experience, attract international research funding and scale for an upcoming merger.

Working with Aruba and Vodafone as a managed service, AIT deployed a Wi‑Fi 6, IPv6‑only campus network (320+ AP‑515/555 access points, Mobility Controllers/Conductors, ArubaOS‑CX switches) plus AirWave, ClearPass and Dynamic Segmentation. The deployment delivered seamless EDUROAM, robust cloud and VDI performance, an all-digital student experience, a new benchmark for network quality among Irish tech universities, strengthened research competitiveness and capacity to support a doubled student body.
