A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study
City University of Hong Kong (CityU), a rapidly rising research university, needed to attract top talent and funding by dramatically improving its capacity for data‑heavy research. The challenge was fragmented, underpowered compute resources—limited rack power, cooling and storage—that left researchers waiting months for results and prevented the university from supporting large-scale modeling, AI and simulation workloads.
CityU built a centralized HPC facility, CityU Burgundy, using HPE Apollo systems with AMD processors and NVIDIA GPUs plus a high‑speed InfiniBand fabric and cluster management software. The new platform delivers a 10× increase in compute power, cuts computational runs from months to hours (with some workflows seeing a sevenfold speedup), broadens access across disciplines, and reduces support costs while improving utilization, cooling efficiency and manageability.
