Centrally-managed high performance network delivers home-from-home experience for Oxford students

The Joint Information Communication Technology Service (JICTS) at the University of Oxford was tasked with unifying IT for Pembroke, Christ Church, St Peter’s Colleges and Campion Hall, where independent, historic buildings and disparate networks created higher costs, inconsistent performance and limited visibility. JICTS needed a centrally managed, secure, future‑proof network that delivered a “home‑from‑home” experience for students, staff and visitors while supporting many devices and large events across four sites.

JICTS implemented a unified Aruba solution—Wi‑Fi 6 AP‑515s, mobility controllers, core and access switches, ClearPass for guest and NAC, AirWave management, UXI sensors and dark fibre linking sites—to centralize management, monitoring and security. The deployment simplified access, delivered consistent high performance and resilience (critical during pandemic demand), improved troubleshooting and visibility, and provided scalable, secure connectivity that enhances student experience and supports conferences and future growth.
