A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study
The University of Miami and its Health System (UHealth) faced a mounting connectivity crisis: aging Wi‑Fi could not keep up with a #GenMobile campus spanning 11 million square feet, 200 buildings and 528 acres, where device counts exceed 25,000 per day and peak simultaneously around 20,000. The institution needed a single, secure, scalable WLAN to support diverse academic, residential, research and clinical workloads—including wireless medical devices and an upcoming EMR rollout.
They standardized on Aruba (via Dell’s OEM offering), deploying roughly 6,300 APs, mobility controllers and Aruba management tools (AirWave, VisualRF, AppRF and ClientMatch) to deliver pervasive Wi‑Fi and centralized visibility. The result is reliable, high‑density wireless across the enterprise, faster troubleshooting and planning, stronger security and support for unified communications, telemedicine and a planned move to 802.11ac—reducing IT burden while meeting varied user needs.
