A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study
BilbaoTIK, the public enterprise supporting Bilbao City Council, faced an aging Wi‑Fi network and a rapid rise in connected devices that degraded coverage, security and user experience across municipal buildings, public squares and transport hubs. The council sought to expand geographic reach, improve service quality and gather anonymized visitor data to better plan transport, safety and public services.
In 2017 Aruba was selected to deploy an Aruba Mobile First architecture — using Aruba 325 and 365 APs, Aruba 7200 Series Mobility Controllers, Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager, Aruba AirWave Network Management and Aruba Analytics and Location Engine (ALE) — rolling out some 1,200 access points citywide. The solution delivered seamless, role‑based connectivity and three SSIDs (Bilbao WiFi, eduroam and municipal/IoT), supported over 120,000 devices in a day, provided anonymous real‑time analytics for planning and security, and reduced costs through federated agreements with partners such as Osakidetza and ETS.
