Aruba Mobile First Architecture offers the immersive experience edge for golf’s most passionate fans

Aruba partnered with Ryder Cup Europe to transform the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National into an immersive, data-driven fan experience. Organizers faced a unique challenge: deliver home/office-grade wired and wireless connectivity across a 150‑acre temporary site with no fibre, a three‑month deployment window, strict aesthetic constraints, and the need to attract younger, more diverse audiences while supporting massive BYOD demand and capturing operational and spectator data.

Aruba’s Mobile First Architecture delivered the solution—649 indoor/outdoor APs, 140+ campus and edge switches, mobility controllers, AirWave, ClearPass, the Analytics Location Engine, Skyfii integration, dual resilient data centres and a fan app (826k+ downloads). The deployment supported 99,000+ devices, 3.2 million Wi‑Fi sessions, 59 TB transferred, up to 15,460 concurrent connections and 10M+ context messages, enabling richer fan engagement, enhanced commercial opportunities and actionable data insights for future events.
