A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study
Ayrshire College, serving over 12,000 students across multiple campuses, rebuilt its Kilmarnock site to remove location- and device-based barriers to learning. The ICT team wanted to supply and control end-point devices (thin clients in classrooms and 400 mobile laptops) and deliver a secure, high-performance wireless network that would support modern, flexible teaching without relying on students’ own devices.
The college deployed a blended HPE/Aruba solution—Citrix virtual desktops backed by HPE Moonshot servers and 3PAR storage, 89 Aruba 802.11ac Wave 2 APs, Aruba 2930F switches, ClearPass policy manager and AirWave monitoring, on a 10Gb backbone. Implemented over the summer, the platform delivered seamless indoor/outdoor Wi‑Fi, centralized single-pane management, segmented secure access for students, staff and guests, halved troubleshooting time, improved user experience (faster client startup and application performance) and positioned Ayrshire as a sector leader with plans to extend the rollout.
