A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study
Canisius Wilhelmina Hospital (CWZ) in Nijmegen is a 4,000‑staff regional healthcare provider serving 250,000 patients annually that needed to deliver seamless, secure access to a new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and meet Dutch legal requirements for patient record access. CWZ’s existing network was obsolete — only about 200 access points across a multi‑building campus — so the hospital required consistent wireless coverage, robust bandwidth handling, simplified access management and strong security to support broader regional care collaboration.
Working with Aruba and SecureLink, CWZ deployed Aruba 802.11ac Wave 2 access points (expanding to ~900 APs), three Aruba 7200 mobility controllers and ClearPass Policy Manager with guest licences to provide role‑based access. The upgrade delivered comprehensive campus coverage, load balancing to absorb demand spikes, and secure, auditable access for staff and patients — enabling mobile EMR use, future IoT and device integration, improved patient services, and stronger compliance with data‑protection requirements.
