American University of Beirut - Customer Case Study

The American University of Beirut (AUB), serving about 8,000 students and 800 faculty across its university and Medical Center campuses, faced rapidly rising numbers of Wi‑Fi devices that overwhelmed its decade‑old 802.11b/g network. Limited device capacity and mobility hindered BYOD adoption and the university’s plans for smart learning and high‑density clinical connectivity.

AUB upgraded to Aruba’s 802.11ac solution—building on its existing Aruba infrastructure and using features like Adaptive Radio Management, ClientMatch, and deep packet inspection—to deliver gigabit‑class Wi‑Fi with backward compatibility and staged rollouts. The deployment (2–3 weeks per building) supported 2,400 unique devices on the new segment, peaks of 600–800 concurrent users, consistently high performance, reliable BYOD access, and a scalable platform for smart learning and Medical Center services.
