A HPE Aruba Networking Case Study
The University Hospital of Schleswig‑Holstein (UKSH) is a major medical centre across Kiel and Lübeck with thousands of staff and dozens of clinics. As part of a 2015 digital transformation and building modernization program, UKSH needed to replace a fragmented, unreliable network with a single, secure and future‑proof LAN/WLAN to support clinical workflows, large numbers of connected devices, and third‑party services.
Working with Aruba and integrator AirITSystems, UKSH deployed a unified Aruba architecture—access points, Mobility Controllers and Master, 2930/2930F switches, ClearPass, Dynamic Segmentation/Colourless Ports and Zero Touch Provisioning—integrated with HYPROS location services. The solution accelerated deployment (targeting 19,283 ports in Kiel), avoided costly re‑cabling, strengthened role‑based security, enabled real‑time location and mobile monitoring, reduced patient wait times, improved resource use and freed IT teams to focus on optimisation and innovation.
