EON energizes security awareness engagement with QR code sticker campaign

E.ON, one of Europe’s largest energy network and infrastructure operators, wanted to make security awareness engaging for its 80,000 global employees while meeting government and German Works Council requirements. To do that, E.ON worked with Hoxhunt and its adaptive phishing training and awareness platform to drive measurable behavior change and stronger security culture.

Hoxhunt helped E.ON launch a creative QR phishing campaign using physical “DON’T SCAN” stickers placed across workspaces in eight countries. The campaign generated strong engagement: 70% of surveyed employees had seen the QR codes without scanning, 20% read the intranet reveal article, and the effort sparked positive feedback and awareness around malicious QR-code threats without shaming employees.
