The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) faced significant challenges in supporting its vast network of nearly 39,000 volunteers. Their previous model was fragmented, relying on inconsistent regional face-to-face training that created friction and an over-reliance on institutional memory from experienced volunteers. DofE partnered with HowNow to move from this traditional training approach to a system of continuous performance support.

HowNow implemented a flexible learning ecosystem featuring structured onboarding pathways and role-specific tracks accessible on-demand. This solution provided volunteers with practical resources and guidance directly within their workflow. The results were highly positive, including over 570,000 content views and 28,264 pathway completions. Critically, 96% of volunteers were actively applying their learning six months later, demonstrating a successful shift from course completion to confident real-world performance at scale for HowNow.
