Enterprise-wide Staff Management Improves Staff Utilization and Patient Care

Health First, a 4-hospital health system with 1,300 nurses and more than 900 beds, was struggling with siloed and reactive staffing practices that left leaders scrambling to fill coverage at the last minute. Using Hospital IQ’s Staffing solution, the organization lacked clear visibility into staffing needs and nurse availability across units, making it difficult to allocate staff to the areas of greatest need and reducing time for unit leaders and the staffing office to focus on patient care.

Hospital IQ helped Health First improve enterprise-wide communication and transparency around staffing, enabling earlier, more informed staff allocation and more strategic use of nursing resources across the system. The results included a 44% reduction in core nurses floating to different levels of care, a 45-minute improvement in communicating the daily staffing plan, and more than 500 calls eliminated each month to deploy staff.
