Nissan Motor Company needed a way to store and analyze growing volumes of vehicle driving and product quality data across silos, with a platform that could support long-term retention and cross-functional use. It selected Hortonworks’ Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), an Apache Hadoop-based solution, to build a data lake and improve big data analytics across the company.

Hortonworks implemented HDP as the foundation for Nissan’s data lake, using tools such as Apache Hive, HBase, and Oozie to manage and access data. The solution enabled Nissan to combine driving, quality, and other enterprise data, increasing internal data utilization significantly and laying the groundwork for a platform expected to handle up to 500TB of data, with future expansion into IoT and a global data lake.
