Improving the Online Exam Experience and Reducing Student Anxiety with Remote Proctored Testing

Colorado State University, led by Paula Rodriguez, Director of the University Testing Center, faced faculty and student dissatisfaction with their prior online proctoring solution, including appointment-only testing, technical and bandwidth issues, and student anxiety about online exams. After piloting Honorlock’s proctoring platform (including features like Canvas integration, Browser Guard, Live Proctor Pop‑Ins and a practice exam), CSU chose Honorlock as its new proctoring vendor to provide a more seamless, flexible testing experience.

Honorlock was implemented quickly and with ongoing support from a dedicated Customer Success Manager. By launching directly from Canvas and enabling on‑demand exams, faster equipment checks, customizable exam settings, and options for in‑center proctoring workflows (e.g., bypassing ID checks), Honorlock reduced technical problems, eased student anxiety, improved instructor flexibility, and “made students much happier,” saving time and hassle for both faculty and students.
