VSI Labs is Perfecting the Autonomous Vehicle with Honeywell IMU Technology

VSI Labs, a Minnesota-based leader in autonomous vehicle research, needed highly reliable localization to validate and integrate AV component systems at its proving ground. To close gaps when GPS is degraded and to provide fast, precise motion data for sensor fusion and control, VSI Labs selected Honeywell’s HG1120 IMU for its testing fleet.

Honeywell’s HG1120 IMU was integrated with VSI Labs’ LIDAR, GPS and CAN-based systems to provide high-rate, accurate inertial data and maintain calibration without frequent user recalibration. The Honeywell solution delivered precise localization that bridges GPS outages, improved LIDAR effectiveness with faster updates, simplified integration through CAN, and came with responsive Honeywell support—resulting in demonstrably more consistent positioning and smoother validation workflows for VSI Labs.
