Vocollect voiceexpress expands voice functionality for ewing irrigation products

Ewing Irrigation Products, a distributor of landscape, irrigation and outdoor-lifestyle products, faced a complex order-fulfillment challenge: bulky, non-standard-shaped items and a desire to expand voice picking into pick-from-reserve without costly WMS customizations. To address this, Ewing worked with Honeywell using Vocollect voice solutions, including Vocollect VoiceExpress and Vocollect devices, to streamline picking and improve accuracy.

Honeywell implemented Vocollect VoiceExpress (with SRX headsets and A500 mobile devices) to integrate voice picking without WMS changes, enabling multi-pick transactions and rapid deployment. The results: a minimum 20% improvement in productivity and accuracy over scanning, reduced training from 1–2 days to one hour, multi-picks that turn 20–30 item transactions into one, and a labor shift from 12 associates working 12 hours/day, 6 days/week for 100 branches to the same staff working 8 hours/day, 5 days/week servicing 200 branches (with picking typically completed in seven hours).
