A Honeywell Case Study
Transnational Blenders B.V., a Dutch lubricant blender serving marine, automotive and bulk-distribution customers, faced growing demand after expanding plant capacity to about 120,000 metric tons annually but was hampered by an aging, custom C++ control system. Persistent server and network instability (including up to five daily server restarts), an unreliable backup server, unstable PROFIBUS links and limited on-site expertise put operations at risk. In consultation with Honeywell, Transnational Blenders chose Honeywell’s Experion LX distributed control solution to modernize and stabilize blending control.
Honeywell implemented Experion LX with C300 Series 8 controllers, eServers and a two‑phase I/O rollout (1,355 I/O then 258 I/O), plus PROFIBUS gateways, Series 8 remote I/O and three operator workstations. The Honeywell solution delivered redundant servers and separated the control and office networks, improved data integrity and system reliability (eliminating the need for frequent daily server restarts), enabled web HMI access, S88-based batch control and OPC MES connectivity, and reduced costs by reusing existing ET200 modules—providing measurable gains in uptime, security and scalability that support Transnational Blenders’ planned expansion.
