SES Water, the UK water supplier for East Surrey, West Sussex, West Kent and South London serving about 675,000 people and more than 282,000 homes, was operating an obsolete, unsupported meter‑reading system for roughly 160,000 radio and visual meters read bi‑annually. They needed a cost‑effective, easy‑to‑use, low‑administration replacement; Honeywell (Smart Energy) was engaged to provide a modern meter data collection solution (METRo) and field hardware.
Honeywell implemented its METRo Reader and METRo Web cloud SaaS platform together with the rugged Honeywell CT60 Android handhelds, delivering route‑based reading, GPS and Geo‑Guidance, photo capture, wireless sync and support for wMBus, multiple RF protocols and LPWAN endpoints. The Honeywell solution has transformed SES Water’s meter‑reading capability—making the system intuitive with minimal training, improving field efficiency, speeding resolution of customer queries via photo capture, and enabling easy integration into billing and MDM systems.
