The Department of Water Affairs Jansenville faced inaccurate billing and widespread unmetered consumption—many meters were buried and never read—so the municipality relied on flat‑rate charges while losing water through leaks. Honeywell was engaged, via its Honeywell Smart Energy offering, to provide smart water meters and AMR technology to capture accurate consumption data and modernize metering.
Honeywell supplied and installed 861 smart water meters (with a further 750 ordered) and AMR, enabling the 861 operational units to be read in just 3.5 hours, delivering reliable remote readings and early leak detection. Honeywell’s solution eliminated manual reading errors, reduced meter theft with polymer housings, improved billing accuracy and revenue capture, and significantly curtailed water loss.
