A Honeywell Case Study
Autostadt, the Volkswagen Group–owned visitor and delivery center in Wolfsburg with 20 buildings and some 2.2 million annual visitors, needed to boost energy efficiency, reduce its carbon footprint and operating costs, integrate thermal and electrical systems, and maintain visitor comfort and system availability. To meet these goals Autostadt partnered with Honeywell and deployed Honeywell’s Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) as part of a long-term modernization and digitalization program.
Honeywell centralized building control with EBI—connecting roughly 37,000 data points (about 23,000 hardware points)—and expanded a 2016 program of detailed parameter analysis, high-performance sensors and automated controls (notably in the Autostadt Towers) to optimize temperature, humidity and air quality. The Honeywell solution delivered measurable results: 41% annual energy savings, CO2 reductions of 460 t/a (vs an expected 308 t/a), reduced system run times and energy costs, integrated thermal/electrical management and improved lifecycle availability, with further rollouts planned.
