Tesco Lotus Improves Retail Scanning Capabilities

Tesco Lotus, a leading Thai retailer with over 1,500 stores, faced growing customer use of smartphones and pressure to support mobile coupons, e-loyalty cards and e-wallets at checkout. To upgrade from 1D to 2D scanning and reliably read barcodes on phone screens, Tesco Lotus selected Honeywell and deployed the Honeywell Xenon 1900g 2D barcode scanner as part of its mobile retail initiative.

Honeywell’s Xenon 1900g was integrated with Tesco Lotus’ new smartphone app and POS across 1,200 stores, enabling fast scanning of mobile barcodes and supporting mobile coupons, e-loyalty and e-wallet payments. The Honeywell solution delivered higher checkout productivity, better reads of difficult packaging barcodes, an 85% in-store customer satisfaction in pilot surveys and a reported significant sales increase following rollout.
