A Honeywell Case Study
Taiyo Oil Company, a leading Japanese supplier of petroleum and petrochemical products, needed to migrate the DCS at its Yamaguchi (NUT) Utility Plant after acquiring Nishioki Utility Ltd., whose CENTUM XL system was nearing end-of-support. Taiyo’s priorities were to improve situational awareness and operator efficiency, rebuild the control application, and complete the system cutover in a single day. After evaluating suppliers, Taiyo chose Honeywell and its Experion PKS platform to consolidate and modernize the plant control systems.
Honeywell implemented Experion PKS, redesigned the HMI to ASM Consortium standards, rebuilt control applications from a control logic study of the legacy system, and completed pre-cutover work so the migration finished on schedule with only one day of shutdown and no major issues. The Honeywell solution delivered measurable improvements in operator efficiency, alarm handling and trend analysis, a unified HMI philosophy with the Styrene Monomer Plant, and ongoing uptake of Experion functions by operations.
