A Honeywell Case Study
Kirkland’s, a specialty home‑decor retailer with more than 300 stores and rapid annual growth, faced a distribution‑center capacity crisis as store formats expanded and the company opened several new stores each week. To handle diverse, often fragile merchandise and rising throughput demands, Kirkland’s engaged Honeywell (Honeywell Intelligrated) to redesign and upgrade its sortation and conveyor systems and support a new WMS and value‑added processing flow.
Honeywell implemented a push‑process distribution design with four pick induction lines feeding an IntelliQ accumulation line, a four‑to‑one central merge and IntelliSort® shoe sorters that feed 17 fluid‑load ship lanes and 22 LTL lanes plus a value‑added services line for ticketing and repacking. The Honeywell solution increased outbound throughput, enabled real‑time allocations at receipt and reduced cycle turnaround time from receipt to shipment by 75%, positioning Kirkland’s to support continued growth.
