SNC-Lavalin GTS Partners with Honeywell to Optimize Operator Training Simulation

SNC-Lavalin GTS, a division of SNC-Lavalin, was tasked by a North African phosphate fertilizer client with increasing production capacity, improving productivity and onboarding roughly 3,000 new operations staff amid imminent retirements. To deliver a scalable, realistic operator training capability, SNC-Lavalin GTS partnered with Honeywell and adopted Honeywell’s UniSim Operations as part of the UniSim Competency Suite for simulation-based training.

Honeywell’s UniSim suite (Training Software, Design Dynamic, Control Simulation, DCS interfaces and Process Monitor) was used to build validated replicas of four key processes—sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, DAP granulation and mine beneficiation—complete with simulated DCS graphics and incidents. SNC-Lavalin GTS deployed the solution across 35 plants, created several thousand hours of course material, implemented train‑the‑trainer and certification programs and supported onboarding of ~3,000 operators, delivering measurable gains in safety, plant reliability and operating performance.
