Santa Cruz Pasta Factory Cuts Time and Errors with Honeywell Mobile Devices

Santa Cruz Pasta Factory, led by owner Steve Simonovich, had grown from a small deli into a Bay Area pasta manufacturer supplying stores like Whole Foods but was hampered by a completely paper‑based delivery and invoicing process. Manual carbon‑copy invoices and back‑office data entry led to frequent errors, lost revenue and long customer stops (about 40 minutes each). To address this, the company worked with Honeywell and a Honeywell partner to introduce a simple integrated software solution along with Honeywell rugged mobile computers and mobile printers.

Honeywell’s mobile hardware and integrated software let drivers scan products to create invoices, print receipts on the spot and automatically sync sales to the accounting system when devices are docked. The result: time at each store dropped from ~40 minutes to ~20 minutes, inventory/invoice work fell from 25 minutes to about 5 minutes, drivers can visit three to four more stores per route, and battery life supports 10‑hour shifts. Honeywell’s solution also cut errors and paper costs (invoice cost fell from $0.18 to fractions of a cent), eliminating hundreds of dollars in monthly losses and enabling growth without adding vehicles or drivers.
