SAMREF Refinery Embraces Wireless Applications, Sets Foundation for Site-wide OneWireless Network Infrastructure

Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery Co Ltd (SAMREF), a joint venture refinery producing about 400,000 barrels per day, needed a secure, scalable wireless infrastructure to support mobile video monitoring and future wireless process and safety applications. SAMREF selected Honeywell’s wireless offering—including the OneWireless Network and Honeywell Digital Video Manager (DVM)—to meet strict requirements for safety, reliability, scalability and professional support.

Honeywell conducted RF site surveys and deployed a turnkey solution of CCTV, Honeywell DVM, OneWireless access points (Cisco Aironet 1552S with integrated ISA100), wireless PTZ vehicle cameras and vehicle‑mounted tablets along with engineering, commissioning and training. The Honeywell implementation delivered site‑wide coverage and bandwidth to stream live video from roaming vehicles to incident commanders, improved incident management and rescue operations, enabled recording of incidents and near‑misses, and reduced dependency on the control room while providing a foundation for expanded wireless applications.
