Refining World-Class Performances

The Sydney Opera House, a World Heritage–listed performing arts landmark, embarked on a decade-long renewal to perform one of the largest upgrades to its building control system since opening in 1973. To support more than 2,000 events and millions of annual visitors without disrupting performances, Honeywell was engaged to deliver integrated building control solutions and manage the complex, live-environment changeover.

Honeywell conducted a detailed study and implemented a new, phased building control system designed to minimize operational outages and changeovers during live events. As a result, the Opera House is on track to cut energy consumption by about 14% over the next few years, pursue a carbon-neutral goal in 2023, and improve its Green Building Council of Australia rating (it earned four stars in 2015 and is targeting five), demonstrating measurable operational and sustainability gains from Honeywell’s solution.
