Preemraff Lysekil Increases Off-sites Efficiency with Blending and Movement Management

Preemraff Lysekil, part of Sweden’s Preem AB refining system, faced aging blending and inventory systems that were becoming difficult to support. The site needed a modern DCS and in-line blending and tank monitoring capabilities to handle ship-loading safety interlocks, emergency shutdowns, stop/restart blending, integration with a third‑party optimizer, and accurate tank inventory calculations. Honeywell was the vendor selected, with products including Experion Blend Controller (EBC), Inventory Monitor and LIMSViewer as part of its Blending and Movement Management offering.

Honeywell implemented EBC upgrades across five blenders (phased from 2005 to 2015), deployed Inventory Monitor for roughly 90 tanks, and integrated lab and optimizer interfaces, completing the migration from legacy OM&S on time with minimal operational disruption. The Honeywell solution delivered improved blending efficiency, stable and reliable blender operation, enhanced tank‑farm safety and monitoring, and met all ROI targets.
