A Honeywell Case Study
Ports of Auckland, New Zealand’s largest seaport, faced the challenge of modernizing its in-straddle systems to maintain high uptime and support future growth across a fleet of 40 straddle carriers. Having partnered with Honeywell since 1993, the port selected Honeywell’s Thor™ VM1 vehicle-mount computer to meet the demands of harsh, vibration-prone environments and variable lighting while improving operational readiness.
Honeywell deployed the rugged Thor™ VM1 with a high-visibility touchscreen, field-replaceable front panel and features like auto-ignition and configurable standby/hibernate to conserve battery. The solution reduced driver startup time, cut maintenance and capital costs through replaceable components, helped eliminate lost productivity from dead batteries, and improved loading/unloading efficiency—raising overall port productivity and equipment uptime.
