OTS Through the cloud at Linde

Linde Engineering, a global leader in industrial gases and engineering operating over 1,300 production plants, faced the challenge of training Remote Operating Center (ROC) operators who oversee dozens of geographically dispersed plants. With limited real‑world training opportunities, rare startup or upset events, and high risk of causing downtime when training on live systems, Linde sought a simulator‑based solution. Working with Honeywell, Linde selected the UniSim Operations/UniSim Competency Suite to deliver centrally managed operator training (OTS) across its ROCs.

Honeywell implemented an on‑premise, cloud‑style OTS platform built on UniSim Design and UniSim Operations running on centrally managed virtual machines (with DCS emulation and SIMIT integration). The solution allowed operators worldwide to train on original HMIs and control strategies from their workstations, enabling rapid, consistent rollout of simulator‑based training, benchmarking between sites, scalable licensing/hardware, and the ability to train before plant commissioning—resulting in smoother handovers and reduced OTS maintenance and license costs for Linde.
