Motiva Successfully Migrates from TDC 2000 to Experion® PKS

Motiva Enterprises, a Houston‑based refiner operating three Gulf Coast refineries with combined capacity of ~1.1 million barrels/day, faced obsolescence and support risks with its legacy Honeywell TDC 2000 control system, dwindling skilled resources for older systems, and technology limitations that threatened operations and margins. To address these challenges Motiva chose Honeywell and its Experion® PKS platform for a DCS/SIS modernization.

Honeywell acted as Main Automation Contractor to migrate Motiva’s Convent site from TDC 2000 to Experion PKS (replacing 13,821 Basic Hiway tags and 4,839 HPM tags), applying toolkit standards, like‑for‑like replacements, FAT/SAT validation, and an EPC approach for non‑Honeywell scope to minimize cost and disruption. The Honeywell‑led execution delivered hot cutovers with no business disruption, zero first‑aid/OSHA recordable events, best‑in‑class cost performance, on‑schedule delivery, elimination of obsolete hardware, and improved diagnostics and reliability.
