A Honeywell Case Study
MOL PLC’s Danube Refinery in Százhalombatta, Hungary, faced an aging Distributed Control System (the Honeywell TDC 2000 installed in 1984) that caused increasing malfunctions, rising maintenance and spare-parts costs, and risked operational downtime. MOL PLC. engaged Honeywell to extend the life of its automation investments, replicate existing control strategies, expand capabilities with modern technology, and replace legacy assets with a supportable solution.
Honeywell migrated the TDC 2000 Hiway to its Experion PKS platform, converted logic to Safety Manager, deployed C300 controllers, upgraded HMIs and replaced DCS marshalling and multi-core cabling for roughly 2,200 signals. The Honeywell-led modernization improved DCS reliability and operator effectiveness, reduced malfunctions and support costs, enhanced ergonomics (lower noise) in control rooms, and positioned MOL PLC. for broader enterprise support under Honeywell’s Assurance 360.
